The dermis is below the epidermis and is referred to as the true skin. It is the bulk of the skin. It is made up of two layers:
- The Papillary layer – it lies beneath the epidermis and supplies oxygen and nutrients to the epidermis
- The Reticular layer – it lies below the papillary layer and is the main part of the Dermis. The reticular layer contains collagen, a protein which gives the skin a plump appearance, and elastin which gives the skin its elastic property.
