You should always carry out a skin and nail analysis before every manicure and pedicure, even on regular clients. Our skin is changing all the time and there are lots of factors, such as ill health, that can make our skin and nail structure change. Give the skin and nails a quick spray with a skin sanitiser.
Analyse the skin and nails before starting the treatment to:
- Check for contra-indications
- Identify specific areas for treatment
- Make sure that a suitable treatment plan is provided
- Make sure the client is treated with suitable products (as many nail companies now offer a range of specialised treatment ranges)
- Build a rapport and gain the client’s confidence
- Check progress if the client has had previous treatments. Look at each nail plate in turn. Make a note of anything you can see or feel.
When you have done this you can then decide on your client’s skin and nail type and condition. During the skin and nail analysis, you should also be checking for any contra-indications to treatment, such as nail disorders and diseases.
