It is essential for the therapist to provide the client with the knowledge of what are the likely reactions that could occur after the treatment. Ensure the client’s nails are fully dry before leaving the salon.
Further provide client with the following post-treatment advices:
- Wear rubber gloves for household duties (washing up, using strong cleaning products and gardening).
- Apply hand cream after having hands in water or when they feel dry.
- Encourage clients to carry a nail file to file a damaged nail to prevent catching on fabrics.
- Use a base coat before any application of a nail varnish to prevent discolouration of the nail plate.
- Future treatment recommendations, recommended intervals between treatments.
- State any contra-actions (possible reactions) that may occur after the treatment, and how to treat them in time.
- Avoid using any harsh soaps or contact with harsh chemicals after your treatment.
- Avoid wearing any tightly fitted footwear after you’ve got your pedicure treatment done at a professional nail salon. Try to wear open-toe shoes.
- When you want to cut your toenails try not to cut them too short or down the sides. This will make them grow inwards.
- If you wear socks indoors or outdoors, try to change them as often as possible to keep your toes clean. It is best advised to wear cotton socks.
- Try to use an acetone-free nail varnish remover since this product is less harmful to the nail.
- Try to do some simple hand exercises to keep your joints supple.
- Make follow-up appointments at your preferred nail salon for maintenance on your nails.
In order to leave a good impression on the clients, therapists must provide them with written leaflets that would guide the clients with aftercare instructions for their treatment. These leaflets would also emphasise on the instructions of how to deal with any reactions (contra-actions) caused by the treatment. This way the therapists can make sure that their clients have adequate knowledge on how to deal with post-treatment reactions in time and for the future they would know what to expect after the treatment every time. Mark my words, this aftercare advice approach would doubtlessly give a good picture to your clients and they would always have a positive feedback for their nail treatments.
